There are days when life seems extremely normal, when the new routine is settling in, and the chaos we’ve become accustomed to seems a little further away.
And then there are days like this. Days like Thursday, July 17, 2015. When all the world’s troubles are no longer an ocean or two away.
Instead, those troubles, that war, are in our beloved city. This amazing city we longed for during the years away, this mostly peaceful, family-friendly, tourist town is now making national news for a story I still cannot wrap my mind around.
Our city, for a half hour, became a war zone, as one young man carried out his planned attack on our local military facilities. Four Marines lost their lives, others injured, by his hand. While the FBI, ATF, Homeland Security, and our local policemen (heroes yesterday themselves) all try to make sense of this incident, all I can think is how desperately our world needs Jesus.
So while we are reeling from the events of the last 24-48 hours, would you mind saying a quick prayer for our beautiful, hurting city, for our country, and for our world? Pray for the families who lost someone in this tragedy. Pray for God’s grace and healing in the aftermath.
And pray for the Lord’s soon return.
